  • Rashid wins his third Dubai O-Plate title in a row at the Kartdrome
  • Good start to season for Abu Dhabi schoolboy ahead of his next race in Italy

Seven year old Rashid Al Dhaheri started his 2016 season in style, cruising to victory at the Dubai O-Plate championship in the Bambino category at Dubai Kartdrome last weekend.

Just a week after winning the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award for ‘Local Young Athlete’, Rashid secured his first win of the season defeating a strong field of fellow Bambino drivers at the Dubai International O-Plate for a third year in a row.

The day started well for Rashid who won the first two time trials of the day without any issues. It was not all smooth sailing for young Rashid however as he suffered from some engine trouble in Race 3 and Race 4 which severely affected his speed.

Despite this Rashid still managed to take third place in Time Trial 3 and out of the top ten in Time Trial 4 but nevertheless securing enough points to take the overall win and his third title in as many years.

Rashid’s father, Dr Ali Al Dhaheri said: “An excellent start to the season, it is always nice get a win on home turf and important to get to Rashid’s confidence up at the beginning of what will be a tough season. We are extremely proud of him; he now has an O-Plate hat-trick winning all the Dubai O-Plate championships since its inception in 2014.”

The challenge ramps up for Rashid at his next race in Italy in March where he will be competing in a higher age category for the first time.
