Rashid Al Dhaheri has been selected to represent the UAE at the 17th edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals from October 15 to 22, 2016 at the Circuito Internazionale di Napoli in Sarno, Italy.

The eight year old Abu Dhabi schoolboy last year became the youngest Emirati driver to compete on the world stage, and now becomes the youngest local driver to be invited to the Rotax Max Grand Finals.

The organisers said in their preview of the event: “The week-long event will see 360 highly motivated karting drivers from more than 50 nations competing for the top of the podium during the week of racing.”

The circuit is internationally ranked under the best race tracks in the world and meets the requirements of the Rotax MAX Challenge perfectly. The race track is also very popular among Formula 1 drivers as lots of them have been testing there in the past,” concluded the report.

Al Dhaheri made his Rotax debut at the recent Al Ain Raceway Invitationl race last month where he impressed with his pace and also how he adapted to a kart, engines and tyres with which he had never raced with. Nevertheless he showed his ability by finishing third in the Micro Max class, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process.

Al Ain Raceway wrote in their race report: “Rashid Al Dhaheri, a motorsport celebrity despite his tender years, was able to put his kart on pole position in qualifying – hugely impressive on his first Micro MAX outing.”

Fausto Ippoliti, the technical director who will be minding Al Dhaheri in Italy during the Grand Finals week said, “This is a great honour for Rashid to be representing his country on such a big stage. I have no doubt he will rise to the occasion.”

“Despite his young age Rashid has this ability, shared by strong race drivers, to adapt to all conditions and find the limit of whatever kart he races with ease. This will be a fantastic experience for him, where he will learn a lot and maybe even surprise the field of older and more experienced drivers.”

Rashid will be part of a UAE contingent of Rotax Max champions who will contest the 2016 Rotax Max Grand Finals with the goal to bring home silverware from this prestigious international event.
