- Al Dhaheri starts seventh and ends third overall in tough conditions
- Abu Dhabi schoolboy ends up top Championkart Academy rookie once again
UAE karting sensation Rashid Al Dhaheri scored another victory in the Rookie Category of the 2016 Parolin Championkart Academy series with a gutsy performance in the Final, which saw him make his way through the field to claim the honour at Pista Rioveggio near Bologna, Italy, on Sunday.
The eight year old Emirati continues to fly the UAE flag with pride in one of the most competitice junior series’ in Italy, completing 40 sessions and around 250 km during the three days, with over 100 drivers in action during the course of the weekend. Al Dhaheri was the only non-European driver in his category of 16 drivers.
Constantly changing track conditions were a big test for the young drivers throughout the event, hence qualifying on Sunday proved to be a challenge for the Abu Dhabi schoolboy who had to settle for ninth, albeit a mere half a second adrift of the pole position time – indicating just how close the field are in the Championkart series.
In the Pre-Final Al Dhaheri signalled his intent as he mixed it up with the front runners, moving up to sixth at one point before settling for seventh when the chequered flag waved.
Starting the Final from seventh, Al Dhaheri made no mistakes and kept out of trouble while retaining strong pace and impressive consistency. He fought his way to third place overall, in a tense and exciting race, and with it claimed the top prize in the Rookie Category for the second time in two races.
Team manager Fausto Ippoliti summed up the youngster’s race weeeknd: “It was not an easy race for Rashid on a new track, with varying weather conditions which kept changing from session to session. We had a few technical issues even on Sunday morning before the race, but Rashid kept calm and cool. He then delivered a perfect perfomance in the race for the team.”

Al Dhaheri and his team return to action, for the 2016 ChampionKart Academy series, on 2 June at Circuito Internazionale del Friuli Venezia Giulia in Ligano, Italy.
