  • Busy season of international karting in store for Rashid starting this month
  • Top championships will provide a challenging season for Emirati youngster

Young UAE Karting driver and winner of the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award, Rashid Al Dhaheri kicks off his international karting season this month in Italy. 2016 will see Rashid take on his busiest and most challenging season so far as he moves up age categories (to age 8-12) and competes in numerous top level international karting events.

Coinciding with his eighth birthday in early April, Rashid’s starts his season in the 2016 Italian Championkart series with back to back in the famous “Campionato Italiano” kicking off his first two races at legendary karting venues Castelletto di Branduzzo 7 Laghi Kart, Milan, Italy, the breeding ground for numerous F1 champions.

The seven year-old , who won the prestigious Dubai Kartdrome O-Plate in January this year, was unable to compete in the first round of the 2016 ChampionKart series which took place in March because he was not eligible for the 8-12 category at the time.

Rashid faced a similar challenge last season in the Parolin Academy Championship 2015 where he missed the first race of the season, despite this however he still managed to take 2nd place overall. Also Rashid will be taking part in the ROK Championship (Italy) in the Mini Category (8-12 years old) ROK, Italiano Campionato and in the WSK Series for the first time.

The WSK Championship is the biggest and toughest karting event in the world with up to 90 top international drivers competing in the mini category alone.

On the local karting scene, Rashid will race at the RAK-Track for the first time at the end of April, competing in the rapidly growing IAME Championship which will also mark the end of the 2015-2016 season in the UAE. Rashid’s UAE karting campaign will resume again in September, where he will compete in the 2016-2017 IAME Championship as well as in the 2016-2017 Rotax Max Challenge in the Micro Max category.

Rashid’s Father, Ali Al Dhaheri said: “Rashid is extremely excited to be starting a new season. As the youngest driver in most of these competitions this will be his most intense and challenging season yet. Therefore this season will be all about learning, there is no doubt he has a lot of natural ability but in order to progress he needs to gain crucial experience and learn to compete at the highest international levels against older, more seasoned drivers.”

“However we are still optimistic as Rashid is used to this kind of challenge, last year Rashid was competing with kids up to 4 years older than him, this is all the more impressive because at this age the physical differences between a 7 year-old and 10 year-old can be huge.”

Rashid’s 2016 season takes on a new dimension as he receives ACI CSAI Italian Motorsport Federation School training to come to grips with the mechanical and technical aspects of racing.

This is an essential part of any racing driver’s training as it allows drivers to communicate effectively with the support crew on the performance of their vehicle. This will be the first time that Rashid will be giving feedback on the kart’s mechanical performance.

At the age of seven, Rashid is already one of the UAE’s hottest young sporting talents, winning over 20 races locally and internationally. Rashid has competed in 51 races, of these he has reached the podium 38 times and 21 of them in first place.
