Rashid Al Dhaheri continues to progress in his summer of learning, with his recent participation in the Easy Training campaign which is part of Italian Championship at the legendary South Garda Karting track in Lonato during the weekend of 28-29 June 2014.
The UAE’s Little Alonso was once again subject to a host of conditions – including wet weather – which tested his skill and speed, as well as his determination – in all instances he emerged with flying colours.
His ongoing training paid off as the Abu Dhabi primary school boy was constantly at the sharp end of proceedings, battling with the top young drivers in his age group and doing a fair share of overtaking in the process.
With the 29 driver grid determined by lucky draw, Rashid started Heat 1 from last place and had made up 10 positions during the first three laps, before heavy rain stopped play – Rashid was 18th when the race was halted due to the conditions.
In Heat 2 Rashid started from pole but was tagged in a first lap melee which saw him drop to last before staging an impressive comeback by overtaking 17 rivals and finishing 12th in the 10 minute race.
Rashid’s father Ali summed up the sentiment after the weekend in Lonato: “We are very proud of Rashid and his great progress. His regular training programme is working well and we see constant improvement despite the fact that he is racing with kids who are older than him.”
The next race weekend for Rashid will take place on 6 July in Siena, Italy.
